GCSE Results 2017

We are very proud of the excellent and consistentachievements of our students at GCSE.  Our value added year on year is inthe top 1% nationally and always in the top few Surrey Secondary Schools. The value added score of 1063 in 2015 put the school in the top 5 schoolsnationally.  Similarly the new government measure for 2016, Progress 8,once again sees St Andrew’s in the top 5 schools nationally and leading the wayin Surrey with a score of 1.08.  Our 2017Progress 8 score of 0.87 again sees us in the top percent nationally and 2ndin Surrey.  Year in year out the students’ performance is equivalent toevery child achieving about 1 grade better in every subject at GCSE thanstudents of the same ability on average in other schools.

The Year 11 students can be very proud of theirachievements at GCSE.  It was 5 years of hard work and the resultsdemonstrate what can be achieved when students, teachers and parents combinetheir efforts.

  • 91% of the students achieved 5+ A*-C grades
  • 87% of the students achieved 5+ A*-C(4+) including English and Maths
  • 91% of all GCSE results achieved A*-C
  • An record 76% of all the GCSE’s achieved A*-B
  • A phenomenal 41% A/A*

Atruly inspiring 46% of all the students achieved 5 or more A/A* grades with 55%achieving 3 or more A/A* grades.

Thesefigures put us among the highest performing schools in the County despite thefact that on paper the ability of the Year 11 students on entry to St Andrew’sshould have put us 20th out of the 52 secondary schools.  These achievements are about the belief wehave in the students, the high aspirations we have for all, great teaching, commitment and determination from everyone involved.

A Level Results 2017

The A Level results were the best in theschool’s history with well over 60% of all grades at A/A*, 85% of all gradesbeing A* or B grade and over 97% of all grades at A*-C.  We had a 100% pass rate and almost all thestudents who applied to go to university secured their place at their firstchoice or reserve choice university.  Wehad significant numbers of students successful in gaining places at topuniversities as well as others getting on excellent apprentice schemes orgaining employment.    Some of ourgreatest successes were with students who had struggled at GCSE but throughhard work, determination and great support from their parents and teachersthese students have now gone on to secure university places.  These achievements were down to the commitmentand hard work of all the students in Year 13, their parents and theirteachers.  We are very proud of what theyhave achieved and I am sure that they will go on to achieve great things in thefuture.

Similarly to GCSE the strength of the school is itsconsistency across all A Level and BTEC subjects.  The BTEC’s all had 100%pass rate with over 90% achieving Distinctions.  The facilitating subjects(Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, History, Geography,Psychology, Languages) were very impressive and the students in these subjectsachieved 48% A*/A and 87% A*-B.

At AS Level despite the significant changes tothe examination system and the national dip in results we had record resultsfor St Andrew’s with a significant number of students achieving 3 or 4 Agrades.  This bodes well for futuresuccess for these students.  I am surethey will go on to surpass the records set this year.
